Coconino County Health and Human Services advises the public that they have confirmed a case of measles in Flagstaff, with another probable case reported.

Health officials say the disease is highly contagious, as unvaccinated individuals who are exposed to the virus have a 90% chance of becoming infected. About 20% of those cases result in hospitalization, with 30% of patients developing serious complications.

The health department has identified five locations where citizens may have been exposed, including the Planet Fitness on Highway 89, overnight February 11th to the 12th; NextCare Urgent Care on Malpais Lane on the 16th; Joann Fabric and Craft on Riordan Ranch Rd on the afternoon of February 29th; at Flagstaff Medical Center’s Emergency Department on March 3rd and 5th; and SimonMed Imaging on Humphreys Street March 4th.

If you were at any of these locations on these dates, monitor yourself for measles symptoms, including high fever; cough; aches and fatigue; red, watery eyes; a runny nose and a blotchy rash.

If you have symptoms, self isolate and contact your healthcare provider immediately. If you are going to urgent care or the emergency room, contact them beforehand and let them know you suspect measles.

Health officials will provide more details as they become available.
