Water Advocacy Group to host informational discussion on PFAS chemicals in Prescott

March 7, 2024
Prescott’s Citizens Water Advocacy Group will host an informational panel discussion on Saturday about PFAS chemicals, also called forever chemicals, affecting household water quality in the greater Prescott area.
The chemicals are commonly used in nonstick cookware; water- and stain-resistant fabrics, carpet and upholstery coatings; detergents, cosmetics and more. They do not readily degrade in the environment, or in humans’ or animals’ bodies, and may cause cancer.
The City of Prescott and Town of Prescott Valley shut down multiple wells in 2022 and 2023 due to PFAS contamination.Saturday’s discussion will feature the latest information on the chemicals, how they end up in groundwater, and proposed treatment technologies.
It will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation building on Sunset Avenue in Prescott; and will also be available via Zoom. For more information, or to register, visit cwagaz.org.
