Prescott nursing home that forced sick employees to work during COVID-19 pandemic settles lawsuits with families of deceased residents
March 7, 2024
A Prescott nursing home has settled ten lawsuits filed by family members of residents who died during the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020.
Granite Creek Health & Rehabilitation was cited by the Arizona Department of Health Services in July of that year for falsifying employee health screening logs to conceal the fact that employees had reported being sick, including with COVID symptoms, but were ordered to work anyway.
The facility administrator surrendered his license the following year; and the case led to changes in how the state reviews and holds nursing home operators accountable.
According to the Jensen Phelan Law Firm, 22 residents of the nursing home died; and nine families filed wrongful death suits against Granite Creek, with another filing an injury claim. Jensen Phelan handled half of those cases, and announced last Friday that all ten claims have been settled, on confidential terms.
