Jerome to hold public hearings on proposal to adopt alternative spending limitation

March 8, 2024
The Town of Jerome will hold two public hearings this month on a proposal to adopt an alternative expenditure limitation, also known as Home Rule, allowing the town to exceed the state-imposed spending limit.
An AEL does not permit the Town to spend more than it receives, nor is it a tax increase. The alternative limitations, once passed, remain in effect for four years, and Jerome voters have approved the measures each time they have come up since 1982.
The first hearing will be held on Tuesday March 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers; and the second will be the following Monday, March 18, at the same time. The Council will vote on the measure following the second meeting; and if approved, the limitation would go to voters on the July 30th Primary Election ballot.
