The Arizona Department of Revenue announced Thursday that the IRS and Arizona’s free online tax filing systems will officially open to all eligible taxpayers on Tuesday, March 12th.

A select number of citizens in a few states, including Arizona, have been pilot testing the IRS Direct File platform, which allows you to file your income taxes for free without having to use third-party software. After completing your federal return, you can then choose to e-file your state return with Arizona’s new online system.

Officials note that eligibility is restricted to those who are only reporting common types of income, earned only in Arizona; claiming limited credits and deductions; and who did not receive the Arizona Families Tax Rebate in 2023.

You can find complete eligibility requirements, and get started, at directfile.irs.gov or fileyourstatetaxes.org.
