Cottonwood PD officer shoots driver during traffic stop altercation

A traffic stop in Cottonwood Friday night resulted in a police officer shooting the driver.


According to Cottonwood PD, the officer stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of South 12th Street shortly before 8:00 p.m., and ended up in a physical confrontation with the driver. The officer shot the driver, who was later taken to Flagstaff Medical Center in critical condition. The officer was treated locally and has since been released.


The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating this incident, and the Police Department will release more details when they become available.
