Copper Canyon FMD rescues two people from flooded low-water crossing

April 1, 2024

Copper Canyon Fire and Medical crews rescued two people whose vehicle became stuck in high waters, near the confluence of West Clear Creek and the Verde River, in Camp Verde, early Sunday morning.

According to the District, rescuers responded to the crossing on Wingfield Mesa Road around 1:15 a.m. One person was inside the trapped vehicle, and the other was on the roof. Crews set up a rope system and deployed a raft to the vehicle, bringing both occupants safely to shore.

Officials advise the public that waterways are elevated across the Verde Valley, and it only takes a foot of moving water to carry away a vehicle.
