APS warns customers of utility scams

Arizona Public Service Logo

March 8, 2023

As National Consumer Protection Week comes to an end, Arizona Public Service reminds customers to beware of utility scams, in which suspects demand that you immediately pay a supposedly-overdue bill, and threaten to shut off your power if you do not.

APS says they will always provide multiple notices for an overdue bill, and will never demand payment over the phone, or via prepaid gift or debit cards. The company offers a variety of programs to help customers who need assistance paying their bills.

Scammers often spoof their phone number to make it look like a call is from APS, and may also place sponsored ads on search engine pages, create QR codes, or email or text you a link leading to a fake bill pay website that look like APS’s actual site.

If you get a call, email or text demanding payment, do not respond, and contact customer service at 1-800-253-9405; or navigate directly to aps.com on your internet browser.

APS also advises the public that they do not sell or lease solar equipment, nor are they currently in partnership with any solar installers. For more information visit aps.com/scams.
