The City of Sedona and Northern Arizona University were among a dozen recent recipients of Recycling Grant Awards from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

Sedona received $63,650.02 to purchase “smart” recycling bins for city parks and trailhead shuttle parking areas. The bins have a solar-powered sensor that alerts the hauler when they are full, preventing overflowing bins, and reducing truck traffic and emissions. Each bin will also have a messaging panel to provide information and outreach on recycling, waste, city events and other information.

The NAU Board of Regents was awarded $43,000 to operate a program encouraging recycling on campus, using a Community-Based Social Marketing Approach.
