Granite Mountain, Thumb Butte cliffs to close for peregrine falcon nesting season

January 30, 2024

The Prescott National Forest advises the public that the cliff faces of both Granite Mountain and Thumb Butte will be closed for peregrine falcon nesting season, beginning February 1st.

The Granite Mountain closure also extends 100 feet back from the edge of the cliff face; and the Thumb Butte closure includes both the north and south climbing faces, and the top of the butte. Trails at each site will remain open.

Maps of the closures will be posted throughout both recreation areas; and you can find a press release with complete details on the Forest’s website. The closures are scheduled to last until July 15th.
