Camp Verde emergency crews responded to a brush fire in the Verde Lakes area early Monday morning.

According to the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office, and Copper Canyon Fire & Medical, a couple of area residents called 911 after smelling smoke and seeing flames in the area of Catclaw Drive around 1:00 a.m.  Responding crews found between 1/4 and 1/2 an acre of brush, leaves and a few trees burning; and contained the blaze to less than an acre within a couple of hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
