Central Arizona Fire & Medical responded to a kitchen fire at an apartment on Windsong Drive in Prescott Valley Monday morning.

Officials say an occupant was able to put the fire out with an extinguisher before firefighters arrived; and crews used a thermal imaging camera to make sure it was safe for residents of the affected apartment and neighboring units to return.

CAFMA reminds everyone to never leave a pan unattended when your stove is on; keep anything flammable, such as oven mitts, paper towels, or food packaging well away from the stovetop; and turn pot handles toward the back of the stove so they cannot be easily bumped or pulled.
