ADOT observing Work Zone Awareness Week

2024 National Work Zone Awareness Week

April 16, 2024

The Arizona Department of Transportation is observing Work Zone Awareness Week, with the theme “Work Zones are temporary. Actions behind the wheel can last forever.”

Though speeding or distracted driving do pose a danger to construction workers, federal statistics show that about 80% of work zone fatalities nationwide were drivers and their passengers.

Officials say it is important to expect the unexpected in a work zone, including reduced speed limits, lane restrictions, and workers and equipment near the roadway.

Always drive alert, without distractions; follow signage and instructions; slow down, and avoid tailgating, as speed is one of the major causes of work zone crashes, and rear-end collisions are the most common type of crash in work zones.
